Role
UI/UX, Product Design
Tool
Sketch, Figma, Adobe Illustrator
Year
2020

Entry Point

There are many types of cocktails out there, it is hard to memorize all the ingredients and mixing directions especially for the beginners.

Solution

A mobile app that shows cocktail recipes based on what the user currently has at home.

Research

Recipe first or Ingredients?

I conducted interviews on people’s motivation and when they search for cocktail recipe.
Except for professional bartender, most people search for cocktail recipe on web or mobile. Only one third of them will plan ahead and then shop for the ingredients listed on the recipe.

Users struggle with —

+ missing ingredients listed on the recipes
+ overwhelmed by the mount of recipe choices
+ taking too long to find the right recipe with the ingredients at hand
+ lost in the recipe search

Users want to —

+ have the ability to select ingredients
+ list of suggested recipes generated from user input
+ keep track of what they have made
+ less steps in searching for a recipe

Persona

Information Architecture

To anticipate what users might encounter using the app, I created this map to help understand the structure and flow.
